Study Permit – Vaughan College

Study Permit Information

Students wishing to study in Canada for more than six months require a Study Permit.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)

- Apply as soon as you receive your acceptance letter.
- Processing times vary (2 weeks to 4 months depending on your location).

How to Apply for a Study Permit

1. Obtain the Application Form

Obtain the Application Form from the Canadian Embassy, Consulate, or High Commission nearest your home.

2. Gather Required Documents

Proof of financial support (e.g., tuition fees paid, bank statements).
Proof that your tuition fees and (homestay fee if not living with family) have been
paid
A valid passport.
Official Letter of Acceptance from Vaughan College.
A notarized Declaration of Custodianship (if under 18).
Medical examination (if required).

3. Submit the Application

Include all documents and the application fee.

4. Attend an Interview (if required):

The Visa Officer will verify eligibility for temporary residence in Canada.

Renewing Your Study Permit

Apply at least 30 days before expiry using the Application to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada form. If you want to extend your stay in Canada as a student, you must renew your Study Permit by completing the Application to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada.

Completed Application to change conditions or Extend your stay in Canada.
Completed Document Checklist
Stamped Receipt*
Custodianship Declaration (See the Instruction Guide for more information)
Photocopy of your passport
Photocopy of your current Study Permit
Letter of Acceptance from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board
Proof of funds available/means of support
Photocopy of transcript from your last two periods of study

*An original receipt of payment form can be picked up at the International Student Program office. This form is not available online.
