Grade 10 Courses

Compulsory Courses

English (ENG2D)
Builds on previous English skills, with emphasis on critical reading, persuasive writing, and literary analysis. Students study novels, plays, and essays to develop clear and coherent communication skills.
Math – Academic (MPM2D)
Focuses on quadratic relations, analytic geometry, and measurement. Emphasizes abstract reasoning and multi-step problem-solving for academic pathways.
Math – Applied (MFM2P)
Practical application of math concepts including linear and quadratic relationships. Emphasizes real-world problem-solving over theoretical abstraction.
Science (SNC2D)
Covers biology, chemistry, physics, and earth and space science. Emphasizes theoretical concepts and scientific investigation skills for students planning postsecondary studies.
History (CHC2D)
Covers Canadian history from 1914 to present. Includes key events such as WWI, WWII, the Cold War, and contemporary issues. Focuses on inquiry and critical thinking.
Careers & Civics (CHV2O & GLC2O) – CARCIV
Two half-credit courses: Civics explores citizenship, rights, and government; Careers helps students explore pathways and set goals for the future.

Elective Courses

Dance (ATC2O)
Enhances physical literacy through expressive movement and performance. Focus on technical skills, choreography, and dance theory.
Visual Arts (AVI2O)
Students will create and interpret visual art using various media and techniques, building on foundational art skills and concepts.
Drama (ADA2O)
Expands on dramatic forms, including monologues, scene work, and improvisation. Focus on collaboration and expressive communication.
Launching & Leading a Business (BEP2O)
Focuses on entrepreneurship, leadership, and planning. Students develop business ideas, marketing strategies, and team skills.
Core French (FSF2D)
Enhances ability to understand, speak, read, and write in French. Students study short texts, media, and participate in conversations.
Instructional Music (AMU2O)
Performance-based music course where students refine technique, learn theory, and work in ensembles. Builds on AMU1O foundation.
French Immersion (FIF2D)
Develops higher-level language skills in French through literature, composition, and oral presentations. For immersion pathway students.
